Anesthesia and Conscious Sedation Options for the Vasectomy Reversal Procedure

When it comes to planning the type of sedation that will allow you to make it throughout the procedure without moving, many variables are taken into consideration. Most importantly, everyone is different; what works for you may not be the best option for someone else. Our options include:

Twilight Anesthesia in the Office
This type of sedation is also known as “conscious sedation” with local anesthestetic to numb the scrotum. This is the most popular option for most healthy men because of the relaxing and amnesic effects that it has.  You’ll be comfortable throughout the entire procedure while we monitor your vital signs to ensure your safety. It allows you to take a comfortable powernap for 2-3 hours.

General Anesthesia in the Hospital
For the more complicated and lengthy procedures, or for those extremely sensitive to pain, general anesthesia may work best. While under general anesthesia, you will not feel or remember anything. It requires a breathing tube and much stronger medications.

Depending on your medical history, preference, and the type of vasectomy reversal you may require, Dr. Kuang will make personalized recommendations.
