How Long Until Sperm Returns After a Vasectomy Reversal?

After vasectomy reversal, it will take several months for your sperm count to return to the level it was before your vasectomy. Sperm should return to the ejaculate after 3 months, but for some men, it is 6 to 12 months. If there was a blockage in the epididymis, you are more likely to wait longer for sperm to return. At our center, we have seen sperm come back as soon as 21 days.

How Long Does it Take to Get Pregnant after Vasectomy Reversal?

On average, it usually takes 12 months for pregnancy to occur after vasectomy reversal. Men turn over their sperm reserve every 3-4 months, and it typically takes a couple of turnovers after reversal to get sperm count to the level where pregnancy can occur. Our earliest pregnancy is at 4 weeks.

Semen Analysis after Vasectomy Reversal

Dr. Kuang will perform a semen analysis at the 2 to 3 week mark and then every 3 months after to monitor a return of your sperm count. Once your sperm count is optimal for pregnancy, we usually wait about 6 months to see if your partner becomes pregnant. If no pregnancy occurs, you and your partner may need to be evaluated for fertility issues.
