Sperm-Friendly Lubricant
Other than natural lubricants such as saliva, are there artificial lubricants that won’t hurt my sperm? Read on for more information.During sex, vaginal secretions and saliva are a couple’s best options for lubricating during intercourse. For some couples, “dryness” can be an issue, and the use of an artificial lubricant that is sperm-friendly becomes important. Recently, research out of the Cleveland Clinic where Dr. Kuang trained has recently shown that Pre-Seed is a sperm-friendly lubricant that may help couples overcome the challenge of vaginal dryness.
The research was published in Fertility & Sterility in February 2008 and compared several artificial lubricants such as Pre-Seed, FemGlide, Astroglide and Replens. Using sophisticated tests to look at sperm DNA damage and how well sperm move (motility), they found that Pre-Seed did not cause a significant decrease in sperm motility or the amount of sperm DNA damage as compared to the other lubricants.
This is an active area of ongoing research and more studies will need to be done to carefully look at the effects of these various lubricants on sperm and fertility. Until a final determination can be made, couples are encouraged to find ways to optimize sex using only natural lubricants. If need be, artificial lubricants such as Pre-Seed can be used.
